The evidence base suggests that town and city centres are likely to be more successful if people are working together. That is whether it is via a town team, a town centre forum or other stakeholder group. And we recognise that local councils have a huge role to play in the regeneration of our town, city and village centres. It is more likely that success will be achieved by the sharing of ideas and responsibilities. It is widely accepted that markets can no longer exist in isolation. Councils have less money to spend and this may mean that market operators have to look for new partnerships and management models if they wish to ensure their markets are to survive and thrive, and invested in. In planning for the future of markets then the operator has to ensure a proper business plan approach and also ensure that the markets are part of the future strategy of the town or city centre.
Our One Day Conference will look at the partnership that NABMA enjoys with national government. We will also look at partnerships with retail to understand how we can work closer with our city and town centres. It is also important to look at market partnerships at a regional level – the best example will be as the Greater London Authority announces the make-up of the much awaited London Markets Board.
Across the country there are many creative partnerships being established, including the 200 Business Improvement Districts, where markets can be such an intrinsic and valued partner.
Most importantly, the key partnership has to be with the local market traders. What better examples of partnership are experiences from the Love Your Local Market 2017 campaign? We will also look at ways in which we can get traders on board for 2018 to make the event even bigger and better.
“Markets through Partnership” will offer delegates many learning experiences through good practice, networking and innovation.
Our January event would not be complete without the awards ceremony for Great British Market of the Year. Celebrate with us the very best in our various entry categories and be there to share first hand who will take the acclaimed title of Britain’s Favourite Market 2018. Sponsored by KPR Midlink the judging panel will reveal the winners of this prestigious competition.
We have provided a very special early booking offer with three delegates able to attend for just £270. I urge you to book early as in recent years this One Day Conference has been oversubscribed. Please book early therefore to avoid disappointment.
