Everyone has been overwhelmed by the response to a special stall staged by Nuneaton Market Traders on two dates over the festive period. Branded as the HOPE stall (Help Other People Enjoy Christmas), Traders and Shoppers were invited to donate goods and cash for those less fortunate. Stuart and Bev Tooby who run a popular confectionary stall on Nuneaton’s award winning market, helped champion the stall along with fellow traders. Dedictated Town Centre Chaplian Rev. Malcolm Fife, Rev Helga Cornell and Councillor Gerald Smith, Chair of the Friends of the Market Group helped man the stall throughout the day. Sue from the sock stall also went round Traders with a bucket and people gave so generously and it’s what makes it all worthwhile.
The idea came about two years ago when Stu and Bev had cake left over which they didn’t want to throw away, so they decided to collect what was left and hand it over to charity.
In addition to goods, a grand total of over £600 was raised which will be divided between Nuneaton Salvation Army and two local churches so that they can continue to support the homeless and those less fortunate.
