Borough Market is one of over 300 markets taking part in the national Love Your Local Market campaign which has been inspired by Mary Portas’ report on the future of our High Streets.
Love Your Local Market fortnight takes place between 23 June and 08 July 2012 and is being backed by Central Government and the Markets Alliance
The campaign aims to highlight the importance that markets play in the heart of the local community, not only for retail but also that they are valuable community assets.
To support the national campaign, Borough Market will be holding a special live Demonstration Kitchen in the Jubilee area of The Market between 12-2pm on Thursday 28th June. Our resident chef, Hayley Edwards, will be on hand showing shoppers how to create dishes with local produce, available in the Market on that day.
The theme of the Demonstration will focus on traditional London dishes including pie and mash, jellied eels and cauliflower florets poached in milk. This creative and informal session is designed to showcase the local produce available in the market and provide shoppers with an opportunity to pick up cooking techniques and tips.
Keith Davis, Managing Director of Borough Market said:
“Borough Market is proud to support the Love Your Local Market Campaign. Throughout its history, Borough Market has adapted to meet the needs ot London and continues to do so and we are delighted to be hosting a very special Demonstration Kitchen event to showcase traditional London dishes and support the campaign.”
Graham Wilson, Chief Executive of the National Association of British Markets Authorities said:
“This is the biggest national markets event for a generation and there is a real opportunity for markets to show what they can do for job creation and bringing town centres to life”.
