Borough Market is one of over 300 markets taking part in the national Love Your Local Market campaign Love Your Local Market fortnight takes place between 15th-29th May being backed by Central Government and the wider market industry.
The campaign aims to highlight the importance that markets play in the heart of the local community; not only for retail but also that they are valuable community assets.
To support the national campaign, Borough Market will be holding a special live Demonstration Kitchen between 12-2pm on Thursday 23rd May. Our resident chef, Hayley Edwards, will be on hand showing shoppers how to create dishes with seasonal produce, available in the Market that day, plus she’ll be joined by various traders showcasing some of their best produce and giving advice on the best ways to use them. Trader skill-shops will include sessions from the Market’s fishmongers on the basics of choosing and preparing fresh, locally sourced fish and on buying and using some of the more unusual, seasonal, foraged foods available exclusively at the Market.
The Market will also be launching a new series of photographic step-by-step recipes on its popular blog and free bi-monthly Market Life magazine, helping to show its shoppers how to make the best of the produce from the Market.
Keith Davis, Managing Director of Borough Market said:
“Borough Market is proud to support the Love Your Local Market Campaign again this year. Throughout its history, Borough Market has adapted to meet the needs of London and 2013 has seen its biggest evolution to date. We are delighted to be showcasing the new Market and supporting LYLM by hosting a very special Demonstration Kitchen event to showcase the fantastic traders and produce available.”
Graham Wilson OBE, Chief Executive of the National Association of British Market Authorities says:
“Love Your Local Market is the biggest market event in a generation. It gives people the chance of a new career and demonstrates
