Pictured above are three of the signatories to the new Retail Markets Alliance (RMA) following an augural meeting at the Houses of Parliament.
Established earlier this year the RMA comprises the main market industry organisations of NABMA, NMTF, ATCM and FARMA and is intended to provide one voice on market issues.
The RMA works closely with the All Party Parliamentary Markets Group which has seen a significant revival under the chairmanship of Ann Coffey MP (Stockport) and it is through the work of the RMA that issues important to the markets industry are canvassed in the Houses of Parliament. A number of government ministers including Yvette Cooper and Joan Ruddock have made presentations to the APPMG on the work of their departments and how markets can play a vital role in achieving government policies.
The RMA has produced a business plan covering a number of areas of market activity and a copy of this business plan can be found by referring to the NABMA documents page on the website. NABMA members can download a copy to keep up to date on what RMA is doing.
A main activity of the RMA is the production of a Policy Framework document highlighting how market connect with a number of important local and national policies including town centre regeneration, job creation, culture and tourism, waste management and healthy eating. This project is being led by Krys Zasada, NABMA’s Policy Manager, and completion is scheduled for autumn 2009 when it will be presented to a meeting of the APPMG
