Printability partner festival again for 2010
Tuesday 27 July 2010
Chesterfield Arts and Market Festival returns in October Half Term for its 7th year. The annual event will run from Thursday 28 to Saturday 30 October 2010. The Festival offers a varied programme of entertainment for visitors and local people. Chesterfield Borough Council is proud to announce that for the third year running, local company Printability has signed up as the main Festival sponsor.
Cllr Ray Russell, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: “It’s always encouraging when local companies get involved in local community events and we’re delighted that Printability has agreed to return as the main sponsor this year. The Festival goes from strength to strength each year and the finishing touches have just been put to what promises to be another fantastic Festival this year.
Dean Newman, Managing Director at Printability said: “We’re proud to once again be the main sponsors of the Festival. The majority of our business comes from the Chesterfield area so it’s good to be able to put a little back into the local community. Last year’s event proved a great success and I’m sure the 2010 Festival will be even better.”
Printability was formed in 2000 with a handful of staff and now employs over 40 people in Chesterfield. They provide a high quality design and print service by integrating leading technology with traditional values. They are strong supporters of local teams and events, including sponsoring Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Derby County Football Club and Chesterfield Football Club.
This year’s Festival highlights include young Iranian stand-up comic Shappi Khorsandi, winners of the Best Group at the 2010 BBC Folk Awards, Lau, the nation’s favourite orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic who will be performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto number 1, Beethoven’s Symphony number 4 and Introduction and Allegro for Strings by Elgar, the Chesterfield CAMRA Market Beer Festival and Jonty Hearnden from TV’s ‘Bargain Hunt’.
The Pomegranate is featuring ‘Austen’s Women’ a one woman show presenting all of Jane Austen’s most famous heroines, and Rebel Cell, an irreverent political comedy told in rap.
Concerts in the ‘Crooked Spire’ Church this year are, Fiori Musicali, Irish harpist Máire Ní Chathasaigh and guitar wizard Chris Newman and the Chesterfield Philharmonic Choir.
The Winding Wheel is playing host to Martin Bell, the Market is boosted by an Arts and Crafts Corridor and the Vikings are coming to Chesterfield Museum.
Derbyshire County Council has sponsored the programme of events at the Library which include local children's author Berlie Doherty and Linda Marlowe appearing in The World’s Wife.
Other local sponsors include the Midland’s Co-op and Chesterfield Townscape Heritage Initiative.
Not forgetting, everyone’s favourite, the Garden of Light which is once again, sponsored by Fredericks of Chesterfield. This sees the Queen’s Park transformed with coloured lights, illuminated entertainers and a traditional fun fair, with fireworks on Thursday and Saturday.
Along with the general markets and a Continental market, lectures and ghost walks, a sausage competition and lots more that there just isn’t room for, this year’s Festival is sure to be the biggest event yet!
