MAKE YOUR MARK 2009

Monday 23 November 2009

In 2008 the competition was a huge success, with 108 applications from wanna be traders, 70 markets offering free space, over 25 media pieces including BBC’s working lunch, The Sun and The Express (and of course the biggest success was the great winner Mr. Matthew Crawford with his business Easy Nuh Caribbean cuisine.

As Make Your Mark in the Markets 2008 was the pilot we learnt a lot:

  • Transparent communication with Market Managers needed.
  • Longer entry time for applicants.
  • Planned market visits.
  • Promotion tools delivered to all market managers.
All feedback was taken in to consideration and will help us build on a bigger and better Make Your Mark in the Markets 2009.

Make Your Mark in the Markets will launch on 20th November 2009 along side the Young Entrepreneurs Market in London Waterloo, next to the London eye! Application forms, promotional materials and website will not be available until this date.

The competition still has the same focus - Give budding entrepreneurs with an innovative idea for a product or service, the opportunity to trade for free within their local market. This project will give early stage entrepreneurs the opportunity to start or grow a business in the current economic down turn.

What we ask is that each market offers the following if there market is selected to host a shortlist applicant or the winner.

  • One free pitch for up to ten days if your market is chosen to host a shortlist applicant.
  • One free pitch for six months if your market is chosen to host winner.
  • Support competition by participating in media opportunities.
Why Markets should be involved:

  • Highlight your market/area as a great place to start a business.
  • Encourage entrepreneurs to start a business from a market stall.
  • Encourage young people back to the Market place.
  • Gain free media promotion.
  • Actively show your market as doing something positive to tackle the recession.
  • If you have one empty stall why not fill it with a new innovative business?
If you would like your market to be involved, then just send the following to the email link below or complete a card which is being sent out to each member separately

  • Name and contact details of main contact.
  • Address of where promotional materials should be sent.
  • Confirmation of the specific market offering free market space, if they are picked to host a shortlist entrant or winner.
If you have any questions please email Denise Ramsey, Enterprise UK at Denise@enterpriseuk.org. or telephone 02074308039.

Please ensure your market takes part in this worthwhile competition.
