Making Markets Suceed

Tuesday 30 June 2009

Professor Allan Hallsworth, Advisor, UK Select Committee enquiry into markets was the key note speaker at the NABMA/WUWM Conference at the Barbican held on the 26th/27th June. Professor Hallsworth spoke about the social and business policies that need to be followed to ensure markets succeed and he highlighted the impact of the competition commission and how large supermarkets had influenced retail shopping. Professor Hallsworth was followed by a range of speakers who looked at the keys to strategic development and a range of case studies demonstrating how markets can provide socio, economic benefits and also providing the missing link to make markets successful. The speakers came from a range of different backgrounds including a range of European experiences from Spain, Holland and France.

The event was organised by NABMA as part of promoting the newly formed European Retail Group of WUWM. David Farmer, NABMA’s President-Elect, commented that NABMA had been delighted to host this event and had always been a key supporter of WUWM. He paid tribute to the work of Councillor Paul Westley, Leicester, who had been very supportive of the original establishment of the European Retail Group.
