NABMA visits New Covent Garden

Monday 14 December 2009

The NABMA Wholesale Forum held its last meeting of 2009 with a visit to New Covent Garden. Pictured is NABMA President David Farmer of Shrewsbury.

Following an early morning visit to view the market in action delegates received an update on the exciting development plans for the site. Along side the complex discussions for the major redevelopment are many exciting innovations at operational level looking at business support and development, including waste management initiatives, so that when the new market is built then best practice will transfer.

The Wholesale Forum was advised that an outline planning application will be submitted in 2010 and the aim is to create a much greater interface for the market with London itself and with the public.

Chairman of the Forum, David Smith, and all members applauded the vision and commitment of New Covent Garden and in particular its officer team. “The market is a key part of the London food chain. The investment and commitment evident demonstrates the real value of wholesale markets both in London and across the U.K and their intrinsic support to numerous retail businesses. NABMA will watch this project roll out with great interest and offers its fullest support.”
