NABMA GREETS LOCAL COUNCILS
Wednesday 29 April 2009
NABMA yesterday promoted its second highly successful “Markets and Local Councils” event at the historic setting of the Lichfield Guildhall.
The packed programme included a visit to the Lichfield Market, delegates discussing with Peter Young, the Town Clerk the market operation, successes and problems.
Presentations from Graham Wilson, Krys Zasada and David Preston looked at the NABMA local councils' toolkit; the use of local council’s markets health check and the NABMA offer to its members.
Break out groups examined issues being faced in taking on markets, problems being experienced by current operators and sharing of good practice in attracting market traders and customers.
Alan Hartwell of Market Place Europe provided an enlightening presentation of speciality markets looking at added value to town and city centres and the footfall that can be generated.
NABMA Chief Executive, Graham Wilson, confirmed his delight with the event.
“It is clear that more local councils than ever are recognising the potential and added value that markets can bring to town centre viability. NABMA was pleased to welcome both old and new friends to Lichfield and we hope that our services and support framework will assist local councils and bring even more into NABMA membership.”
