LOCAL COUNCILS AND MARKETS

Monday 31 March 2008

In a first joint venture between the National Association of Local Councils and the National Association of British Market Authorities a seminar is to be held in the historic setting of the magnificent Guildhall at Lichfield, courtesy of the City Council.

This is a unique networking and learning opportunity for Councillors and Officers of local councils currently managing markets or aspiring to do so in the future.

Among the speakers at the Seminar will be Ken Cleary, Chairman of NALC and Justin Griggs, Head of Development at NALC. NABMA will be represented by Graham Wilson and Krys Zasada. There will be case studies of two local council markets from Jamie Corrigan, of Ferryhill Town Council, Durham and Sarah Summers, Town Clerk, Stratford-upon-Avon Town Council, Warwickshire.

The importance of local councils in promoting markets was highlighted at last years NABMA Conference and this is an ideal opportunity to follow up the interest of local councils in providing a markets service.

NABMA President John Gareth Jones says “he is excited by the prospect of more local councils becoming part of NABMA and he looks forward to what promises to be an exciting day at Lichfield.”

The cost of the Seminar is £35 per delegate.

Copies of the application form for the Seminar can be downloaded from the NABMA website by going into the conference and events section and clicking the Local Councils Seminar entry or can be obtained from the NABMA office at The Guildhall, Oswestry, Shropshire, SY11 1PZ.
