The events team at Kirklees Council has announced the opening of their recruitment process for events throughout 2008. Starting with the Festival of Folk weekend in Holmfirth on 10 and 11 May and continuing through until Christmas with the Christmas Craft market also in Holmfirth there is a wide choice of special events to take part in.
The World Music event taking place on Sunday 13 July in Greenhead Park includes the traditional Mela. The event is a celebration of art, craft, culture and community which will bring alive the sights, smells, sounds and tastes, bazaars, folk troupes, dance and music - of Asian and global communities both traditional and modern, authentic or re-interpreted.
The fabulous Food & Drink Festival in Holmfirth is taking place for the third year this year and applications are currently being accepted for food traders from across the country. Anyone interested in hosting a cookery workshop or demonstration is also encouraged to get in touch.
The team are also accepting entries to the junior chef’s event at Huddersfield Open Market in August and the infamous Onion Fair at Dewsbury Market in October.
Cllr Ken Sims, Cabinet Member for Regeneration said ‘local businesses and fundraising groups should get in touch with the events team to see what opportunities are there for them to promote themselves at some of our popular events across the district. Similarly our local markets are an excellent resource for communities to promote their activities, raise funds and awareness for their activities.’
