NABMA had one of the best attended Retail Forums at last week’s event at Liverpool. Held in the prestigious setting of Liverpool Town Hall, NABMA representatives from all around the country heard a presentation on the redevelopment of Liverpool’s Indoor Market. The scheme approved by the City Council provides for an investment of £20 million in the redevelopment of the market hall and is a key driver in the regeneration of the City Centre. There was a lively question and answer on issues affecting the work and NABMA members were provided with detailed information on the timescale and the anticipated outcome of the project. In addition to hearing about Liverpool City Council’s plans, there were also discussions on a varied number of issues including benchmarking, rating valuations, Market of the Year and conferences and training. Retail Forums provide one of the most effective ways of market managers keeping touch with what is happening in the markets industry and Chairman of the Retail Forum, Councillor Paul Westley of Leicester, commented on the success of the day and indicated how pleased he was to see so many representatives present. He paid tribute to the efforts of Liverpool City Council to promote its markets and said that he looked forward to seeing the results of the work in due course.
