Billingsgate welcomes NABMA

Friday 14 December 2007

The visit of the NABMA Wholesale Forum this week offered delegates the chance of an early morning and behind the scenes look at one of London’s highly acclaimed food distribution centres.

Staff from the City of London took NABMA delegates at the crack of dawn into the frantic trading areas packed with consumers, traders and visitors. The behind scenes tour looked at refrigeration, recycling – including the newly installed polystyrene recycling plant and the many specialist fish trade units that add and contribute to the richness and diversity of London food.

A highlight of the day for NABMA delegates was the visit to the Billingsgate Sea Fish Training School were the amazing initiative was explained that provides training for professional and amateur cooks, for the fishing industry in general but importantly for schools and educational establishments. The investment in training and education was applauded and the successes and throughput admired.

Pictured are NABMA delegates in the Training School with CJ Jackson Director that include NABMA President Councillor Gareth Jones who said. “On behalf of NABMA we sincerely thank the City of London, Billingsgate and its Superintendent and Staff for a truly memorable day. We have so much to be proud of in our wholesale markets and our visit demonstrated the composite role of Billingsgate in meeting wholesale and retail demands and its importance as a true food distribution centre for the City and way beyond.”
