Market of the Year 2009
Thursday 29th January
This award, first launched in 2005 has attracted much interest and publicity for the whole of the markets industry. Winners of the competition have also enjoyed both significant local and national promotion and publicity.
The event is badged under the Retail Markets Alliance that brings together the various national organisations involved in the operation, management and promotion of market activities in the United Kingdom. This year there are more categories including the chance for smaller local markets to participate and also privately operated markets.
NABMA wishes to offer its grateful thanks to KPR Midlink Ltd. for again providing their valuable sponsorship of the competition.
Retail markets continued to play a vital role in the retail economy. Recent headlines statistics confirm that there are over 1,150 retail markets operated within the United Kingdom. The markets industry offers employment to more 96,000 people. There are over 435 million shopping visits to markets each year and over £1.1 billion is spent at market stalls each year in the U.K.
NABMA urges you to consider entering your local market for Market of the Year 2009. Why is it attractive to your shoppers and visitors, has it won any awards, been part of a regeneration scheme or does it engage with new trading practices and technology?
In addition for 2009 two new categories are added and these are in respect of the best private market and also the best small market that has no more than 50 stalls. Please tell us why your market should be considered to be the NABMA/KPR Midlink Market of the Year 2009.
Councillor Stuart Bray,
President, NABMA.
The winner of the NABMA/KPR Midlink Market of the Year 2009 will be announced at the next highly popular NABMA One Day Seminar.
