About NABMA
Nabma is the true voice of local authority markets. In the last two years we have expanded the organisation significantly recently including the Association of Private Market Operators within our structure.
As the country’s leading markets organization, NABMA has successfully promoted the interests of its local authority members for over 80 years. Membership benefits include professional advice, a lively forum for discussion and a key role in shaping the future of markets. We also other assistance with scrutiny reviews and a free half day’s consultancy. Membership is open to any organisation having control of retail, wholesale, livestock markets, public abattoirs and pleasure fairs.

An important part of NABMA’s membership offer is a training and development programme aimed at increasing the professional standards in the management and delivery of markets.
Our agenda for 2008 is wide ranging. NABMA is fronting the development of a policy framework for markets to assist the All Party Markets Parliamentary Group linking with various academic bodies. It continues to press for changes to pedlar and street trading legislation in the interests of consumer protection. It is involved with Valuation Offices on rating matters and it leads the sector in promoting conferences, seminars and training to raise the profile and standards for markets. It also works extensively in partnership with organisations representing trading standards, place management and the trading aspect of the industry.
If markets are to remain an important issue for policy makers then the voice of markets must be heard at all levels of government and Nabma is ideally equipped to deliver this important role.
